UL6S innovates by offering new certifications in Big data and Lean Green

27 June 2021

UL6S (formerly Lean 6 Sigma University) has been the reference organisation in France for all Lean management, Lean 6 Sigma and 6 sigma certifications for over 15 years, and is innovating by offering new certifications in Big data and Lean green. Also, in complete independence, as an extension of training courses, UL6S issues individual certificates of competence to enhance the value of acquired skills in all organisations (industrial and service companies, administrations).

Listed since 2016 in the Inventory of the CNCP (National Commission for Professional Certification), these certifications are recognised by France Compétences and are registered in the Répertoire Spécifique. This recognition guarantees the quality of the reference system as well as the adequacy with the labour market and allows the eligibility of the certifications to the CPF (Personal Training Account).

The UL6S strategic development plan is largely guided by the voice of its clients. This is why, in 2020, in order to be part of the industry of the future, UL6S organised a Data Science Course, which took the form of 3 conferences, 2 articles and a competition. This initiative marks the UL6S's desire to innovate.

On the strength of its know-how in terms of certifications (350 certificates of competence since its creation - more than 500 certificates of knowledge delivered in 2020), UL6S wishes to register new certifications with the CNCP (specific register), in response to market demands, one on « Big Data », the other on « Lean Green » or « Lean/ CSR ».

For the certification in "Big Data", 4 types of skills will be required to guarantee a balanced profile of future experts. At the knowledge level, a good knowledge of the "Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM)" which is to Big Data what DMAIC is to Lean 6 Sigma. In terms of know-how, mastery of datasets, deep learning and algorithms are essential. In terms of interpersonal skills, the data scientist is more of a "geek", passionate about mastering data and persevering to bring projects to fruition. Furthermore, they like to work in a network to respond to a logic of "sharing knowledge", through an active role on data challenge or training platforms (bootcamps), in specialised trade fairs (NB: Our 2020 article on our site details the content of each skill).

For the "Lean Green" or "Lean CSR" certification, the candidate will have to present knowledge of the notion of Corporate Social Responsibility, and the fundamentals such as the 3P rule (Profit - People - Planet), the ISO 26000 standard, the GreenSCOR Model, the circular economy models (ADEME - Ellen MacArthur Foundation), the Lean Green Strategic Matrix (eco-efficiency / eco-partnership, eco-responsibility, eco-solidarity), etc. As with the Lean and 6 Sigma certifications, a demonstration of know-how through the conduct of an operational project will be essential. The candidate will then be able to use the DMAIC process to structure his project and guarantee the achievement of tangible and lasting results. Specific tools for each phase can then be implemented according to the nature of the subject: the CTS can be broken down into CTE (Critical To Environment); the Carbon Footprint, the Material Footprint (input/output), the Energy Footprint (input/output) will be key measurement elements. The "VSM" will be replaced by a "Material" mapping, or a Life Cycle Assessment, or a "Waste treatment cost / Material purchase value" matrix.

These first descriptive elements of the outline of competences to be demonstrated for the two new certifications constitute the few basic elements. The construction of the file to be submitted to the CNPC (National Council of Cycle Professions) has begun.  Approximately six months are needed for administrative validation. So let's meet before the end of the year, to start the first certifications in "Big Data" and "Lean Green". And don't hesitate to contact us in the meantime with your remarks / suggestions.
